Family & Friends

Last week was Thanksgiving - it's a rare treat for me to go home and be able to hang out with  my family.  The busy schedule doesn't exactly lend itself to photo shoots, but I sometimes manage to snap a few pictures that really stand out above the rest.  I especially love to take pictures of my sister's children, Caleb and Keppley, because they are both beautiful and so very full of energy and life. The newest addition to the family (my brother's little girl, Avery) is just as photogenic!!

And of course, Charleston SC never fails to disappoint...

Here are some of my favorites from my Thanksgiving holiday.

It was really nice to be home. Hopefully I'll be adding more ACTUAL photo-shoot shots to my portfolio over Christmas holiday - stay tuned!

Farm Life, a Sample

We all know the truth : I don't go anywhere without my camera. Especially when November gives us seventy-degree days and beautiful blue skies.

Here are some of my favorite pictures from this weekend :

Au Naturale

Dont worry, it's not what you think!!

I went for a walk in the woods today. To be more precise, I walked about 300 yards into the woods at Alapocas Run State Park, here in Wilmington DE.  I've been trying for weeks to make the time to get some pictures of the fall leaves here in Delaware - they were breathtakingly beautiful (especially to a little Southern girl like me, who comes from a place where the leaves are pine needles or green-then-immediately-brown) ... unfortunately, I missed the prime by about a week.  The last two nights' frosty temperatures have turned the majority of the leaves dark, drab brown, or has just pulled them right to the ground.

But in the shadow- dappled woods of Alapocas Run, there are still a few trees that have held their grip on bright, shiny autumn leaves.  Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this afternoon :

Battle had a blast chasing field mice and grasshoppers in the tall grass by the trail leading into the trees.

This white-barked tree nearly glowed in the afternoon sunlight that filtered through the leaves... I couldn't take my eyes off of it!

I love the very green grass and bright blue sky - this is what I want in my backyard someday!

I'll have to do better about my timing next year to catch the fall leaves.  Now, Bring on the Snow!

"Fortunate Harmony" indeed...

My first real experience with an actual PHOTO SHOOT setting was in May, 2010, with my beautiful friend Abby and her three-year old Morgan mare, Fortunate Harmony... we call her Minnie.

I've worked with Abby & Minnie since our first year in vet school... I've watched them come from scared-to-walk-to-the-arena-alone to riding-over-cross-rails-at-a-confident-trot.  I am so proud of Abby for stepping up to the challenge of training a young horse (especially such a smart, sassy one as Minnie!!) for the first time. She has done a wonderful job, and as of Summer 2010, they've far outgrown me!

Being outgrown is bittersweet - I cant help but to be sad about all the progress that I'll miss from here, but the sadness is far outweighed by how proud and satisfied I am with the trainer that Abby has become, and the well mannered, beautiful mare that Minnie has grown into. Hurrah!!

These are my favorite pictures from my Three-Year Photo Shoot with Abby D. & Fortunate Harmony (aka Minnie!)... Abby's boyfriend Jon and their sweet Burmese Mountain Dog, Sedona joined us too!

Abby's pictures will always be free. ;-)
