I went for a walk in the woods today. To be more precise, I walked about 300 yards into the woods at Alapocas Run State Park, here in Wilmington DE. I've been trying for weeks to make the time to get some pictures of the fall leaves here in Delaware - they were breathtakingly beautiful (especially to a little Southern girl like me, who comes from a place where the leaves are pine needles or green-then-immediately-brown) ... unfortunately, I missed the prime by about a week. The last two nights' frosty temperatures have turned the majority of the leaves dark, drab brown, or has just pulled them right to the ground.
But in the shadow- dappled woods of Alapocas Run, there are still a few trees that have held their grip on bright, shiny autumn leaves. Here are a few of my favorite pictures from this afternoon :
Battle had a blast chasing field mice and grasshoppers in the tall grass by the trail leading into the trees. |
This white-barked tree nearly glowed in the afternoon sunlight that filtered through the leaves... I couldn't take my eyes off of it! |
I love the very green grass and bright blue sky - this is what I want in my backyard someday! |
I'll have to do better about my timing next year to catch the fall leaves. Now, Bring on the Snow!
